Shot list

Location - There will be a variety of locations used, these include the photography studio in college, a quite road and somewhere with the city backdrop.
Costumes - there will be be no specific costumes, but we will need to make sure he is wearing fashionable clothing that would people would expect rappers to wear. We are doing this as we found in our research that they're not wearing costumes but wearing everyday clothes and not trying to tell the story through the costumes and how they look.
Props - We will need a chain/ necklace and a variety of caps.

Research and Planning

I am undergoing some in depth research into some of the artists and music videos that my particular target audiences are listening to. Doing this should give me a clear decision of what sort of ideas I should use for my Video. Here is a mood board of some of the Artists that my Target audience are particularly listening to and some fashion brands which i also consider being a huge factor within my specific audience.

Digipacs -Rnb and hip hop

These are some of the digipacs/album covers that i have found that are related to my genre of work and will help me in making my own for my music video. These are some album digi pacs and covers that i have found that are specifically targeted for my target audience of 16-22 year olds alternative hip hop fans. These artists are not mainstream but are alternative hip hop and are slightely different to the mainstream artists. We are looking within our digipac to keep it simple and again like in our video use our fonts to attract our audience.

Pitch Feedback (research)

  • Overall I though that our pitch did go well i found that we delivered our point affectively to the whole class we used  power point slide to show our ideas such as target audiences and inspiration of past videos and artists however in found that most of our audience felt as if our idea because of the technological aspect was not achievable.
  • According to the feedback sheet I found that most people thought that the idea did link and was suitable to our specific target audience. We used a mood board showing the usual clothes and costume that our target audience which is 16-22 will be into we used trainers,hats to describe our specific target audience and genre a sit is what we expect our audience to be wearing.
  • There was a slight mix up when delivering the pitch most of the audience did think that we were going to use animated cartoon images such as the pictures that we had shown such as Kanye West in the good life video this was not our intention as we just wanted to use colourful fonts and stay away from the more advanced cartoon animated images as we knew that those ambitions will be virtually impossible with the technology that we had in college.
  • We wanted to move away from the idea of narrative within our music video as i believe that it is too mainstream and in some ways boring and repetitive we thought that kanye wests ideas of throwing lyrics at teh screen would be an easy yet affective way to make our music video as our lyrics are fairly random and does not really follow a meaning so colourful urban fonts is a great idea to engage our audience within the video.
  • From our pitch i found that people did like our idea and thought that it was original and matched our target audience but are not thinking it is achievable when reading the sheets i found this is because of the mix up of cartoon images used we are specificcally using fonts for parts of the video as well as the performer.
  • I am fairly worried about the negative feedback on the idea of using fonts etc however teh feedback on originality and logistical arrangements were impressive as our risk assessment would be bery brief as we are not using light systems or filming on busy roads or near rivers etc we are thinking of using a white background throughout the video and throwing colorful fonts at the screen

Video music number 2 Kanye west

This particular interview was the most interesting for as it is what I am thinking of doing for my video although Kanye west took a different route to other rap/hip hop stars by using a animated version of the video some of the conventions used are still the same as always.

Jump cuts are used throughout the video to connote confusion in Kanye west's mind a number of medium shots of the women in very fast editing motion does create a sense of confusion for myself as the audience to this video. I think the feeling that Kanye west is creating for the video is to show that he is very lonely throughout the video there are wide angle and medium shots of Kanye west covered by bright animated signs  witch is very impressive and well done by the producer hype Williams.


Long shots and medium close-ups are still used to show Kanye west's hand motions that he uses throughout the video to show how upset and lonely he is and also connotes desperation the medium close ups also do show Kanye west dressed in  Flash/casual clothing which is a huge part of Kanye West's star persona. The performance of Kanye west and mise en scene is again a huge part of this lonely feeling that is connoted and expressed to the audience. A brilliant shot that i found was when there was a medium close-up of Kanye west smoking a cigarette this was very weird for me to see as i did not expect that from the artist and was very clever from Kanye west and indeed the music producer to create the lonely,edgy,confused sense of feeling and insecurity.




Although all this is going on Andrew Goodwin's theory is very much introduced within the video the male gaze theory that are popular within this specific genre is used when you stare at the female in the video from the eyes of Kanye west the camera zooms in and the women turns around and reveals her body by the use of a long shot cinematography and the bright dress is used to make the women stand out and is shown as a sexual object to the audience.


The editing throughout the video is very quick and there are more shots then an average music video the video is fairly hard to follow with so much going on and again connotes a sense of confusion Kanye west does brilliant by linking all aspects of media convention to create this lonely ,confused feeling that Kanye west is going through in this video this video expressed some of what Kanye west was going through with his current girlfriend at the time it was known that him and his partner were experiencing problems within their relationships so therefore it does fit in with Goodwin theory of music videos in a way showing the story of the artists life by a music video Overall this text is amplified because it is how he is seeing this woman who broke his heart and hurt him so bad us as an audience see what he is thinking throughout the video. As for narrative the issue does not get resolved and there is not a reparation stage or a new equilibrium

I am thinking of doing my music video in the music Genre R,n,b what i have found in this particular song R Kelly and Usher- same girl is that the visuals do tend to match the lyrics right through the song for example when the artist R Kelly actually says tattoo on her ankle there is a shot of the tattoo on the ladies ankle this just does not happen once a part that does this is towards the end when the artist says I,m gonna show up too and you say him showing up as well as the other artist this happens throughout the video which does agree with theorist Andrew Goodwin and seems to be very popular in most RNB/HIPHOP videos. Another point that I came across when analysing this video was the male gaze this is when the camera is in the eyes of the male looking at the women attractive features I spotted this right away in this particular video and the editing and cinematography is very well used in the video to show this. The editing and camershots within the video links in greatly with Andrew Goodwins point.  Shot reverse shots are used within the video to connote the confusion in both of the artists face when they eventually realise that they have been seeing the same girl. Shot reverse shots are used widely throughout this video to again engage the audience and show the reaction in both of the artists face. Slow motion and panning shots are used i believe to show sexual fantasies for the women and indeed the men in this video. What caught most of my eye within this video was the mise en scene and in particular the costume within the video and immediately made me think of Andrew Goodwin theory that the star is trying to present an image to its audience throughout the video unlike other rnb/hip hop artists the two artists in this video are seen to have a rich lifestyle this is shown by wide angled shots you see the artists in flash designer clothes Basketball courts , driving in expensive cars and flying in private jets I believe this was used by the artists to show their star persona and in terms on the Andrew Goodwin theory I believe these images of wealth that again is copied from many Hip hop artists before them are to describe their own lives and to create a pleasure to the audiences watching these are some of the shots that I found that describe the mise and scene and star persona of these two stars. As for the narrative of the story it is pretty obvious to see us as the audience see that they are seeing the same girl the two artists try and plot a plan against this girl until there is a very unexpected twist at the end of the video where the the women they were both seeing turned out to be twins this threw me completely off guard and again bought in the Andrew Goodwin theory and would of created a pleasure for the audiences watching.

50 cent candy shop Analysis

1 The song was illustrative throughout with the lyrics matching the visuals of the song for example when 50 cent says I am the love doctor you see him in what appears to be in a patients room ,


 when he also says undressed quicker you say the female rip his vest off with a whip so there is a link between the lyrics and the visuals.










 The verses within the song normally is focused towards 50 cent whereas the chorus is nearly always focused on the females of the video I believe this is used to create a pleasure and to show the women as a sexual object to predominately a male audience.

Within the video there are plenty of wide angled shots of the women to show off there sexual attributes to the audience and create a pleasure.

I believe that mise en scene is used to create an image especially for 50 cent you see him dressed in fur coats big jacket jewellery flash cars which all connote power in wealth this could be shown by the star that this is what he has now and he wants to show it to anybody watching the video.




I think that this power has also made 50 cent out to be irresistible to women after girl after girl moments throughout the whole video.

Production digital technology/production

my knowledge of production technology develop i always have slightely struggled using digital ntechnology but in this task i have found that i have improved dramatically and i successfully editied my own video which i felt was a personal achievment my knowledge expanded especially within the editing sense of the excercise i found out that editing takes a large amount of your time and have considered that for my future task of making my own music video. I know definately agree with the use of blogging i feel that the website is very personal and it is very good how you can post all your planning and researching in an orderly manor i think blogging will be key for my cw task and also revision for my end of year exam i intend on using blogging the most i can.
i learnt in the production task that technology could go wrong at times .i.e the editing software at times was not working i will try and avoid this in my assessed courseworl by not leaving everything til the last minute and makse sure i use blogger to keep me organised to make sure that these occurances do not happen. I also learnt that production is a large part of the course so therefore i need to definately plan things because at times in this task we had to rush scenes and because of the disorganisation it could of been improved.

A technology skill that i will definately like to develop is the editing and use of camera all tho i did finish my editing of the busted video i did need help from other peers within the group throughout A2 i will want to improve so that i will need no assistance when editing a video in the future.

The shoot i felt went relitavely well considering the amount of time we had. We had a slight problem especially with the 180 degree rule we broke it during the shoot and realised on the last day of the shoot and we quickely had to rush to adjust the problem. Another problem i found was the final scene we literally finished it right before the deadline i felt this is an issue i believe that rushing does not lead to the best resukts so in my cw task im going to make sure that this does hot happens and that i finish in time to make adgustments and edit so that everything is in order that way the task is less stressfuk rather then stress and leave everything til the last minute thats why blogging is my main priority within this A2 year

Research and planning

The Planning task were all pretty useful because they all gave me an indicate on what I will need to do for my own piece of coursework. Personally I believe the storyboard is most useful I think that is the case because with the storyboard it keeps you organised and shows you ecactly how the shot should look like so therefore this gives you a template to work from. however i feel that the shot list is also a very important part for planning the shoot I.E our own shooting script showed what was needed to be done on the days we had available.

In this task i wish we planned the location and shots in more detail because when we actually had to shoot we had problems and the final piece seemed a little rush. i think a way we can imrpove this if we watched the original video in more detail and then have a day to do a practice shoot then review that then make adjustments and improvements for the actual day of shooting for this particular task we didnt had enough time but for my real a2 media piece i will plan my work in much more detail i.e such a genre for my music genre and look at the conventions , props and mise en scene that theyn use and seek guidance from them. i will also look at artists such as jay z and kanye west for example who choose a different route and do not stick to conventional music videos and seem to do more obscure videos i will evaluate these options and make a decision that will make my video as successful as possible. i think i will go down the amplified route rather then just copying ideas of other artists.

Introduction

Since we started A2 media we have took part in two group exercises the first being a vocal exercise where we got into groups and had to perform a choice of song our group personally chose a total eclipse of the heart. we firstly had to video our selves singing it then use an editing programme to match our lib syncs to the original vocals of the song. Our 2nd exercise was slightly more complex where we were asked to remake the first 46 seconds of a busted video this was more useful for our actual coursework piece because we between us had to sort different props ,roles and ideas within a group
